Sarika Kabra asked: Recreation is the most vital aspect of your daily schedule. It re-vitalizes and re-energizes the body to take on other important chores of life with a renewed vigor. After getting physically and mentally exhausted at the end of a hard day, a good workout with your favorite game does the trick in relaxing all the mental and physical muscles. In a highly paced lifestyle, some of us may not have enough time at our disposal to visit the nearest club or other sporting facility. In such circumstances, we can easily have some spare space in our homes, preferably a separate Game Room, to make arrangements for games suitable for our recreational purposes.
The facility of games of your interest can be easily purchased from the market after satisfying yourself about the price and quality of the product. The diverse game room sport facilities include billiards table, pool table, carrom board, table tennis, cards table, chess table and even combination game tables. The most important thing to be kept in mind while buying sports accessories is that the boards and tables should not exceed the dimensions of the available space in the game room. And after placing them, there should be adequate space available for you to decorate the game room.
Some people might disagree with the idea of furnishing game room. But the best reason to decorate the game room is the idea behind the very existence of game room – ‘recreation’. And recreation is not possible with a monotonous game room. Unless you are surrounded with motivating furnishings, the idea of recreation will remain elusive. And here lies the chance for you to unwind and bring out your best creative talents out in the open. ‘Innovation’ is the name of the game when it comes to furnishing the game room.
The game room, ideally, must have bright background that appeals to the sagging souls. The flooring, roof and wall paints must emit positive vibes by the radiant colors. You can also dabble with a mixture of colors with differently colored walls, differently finished floorings and even roof. Adequate lighting as per specifications of every game must be taken care of. You can innovate by having different colored and different styled lights for different games. You can also have lights positioned at different spots so that they look attractive.
Some kinds of wooden furniture items may also form part of your game room plans. Chairs from Amish made furniture could add to the diversity in the game room. Small Amish handcrafted furniture items like tables, stools and chests could be placed at strategic locations to best serve the interests of the players of different games. Amish furniture is, in itself, a great way to relax purely by the artistic touch it lends to the environment.
You can also get great ideas from browsing online and offline home decoration magazines. These are an excellent source for various leads required in your entire game room furnishing plans. And don’t forget the importance of market research before buying any article for your game room.

Sarah Johns asked: The game of Carrom, often described as finger billiards, is an indoor game played on tabletop. This game has a strikingly similarity with other table top games like table shuffleboard and billiards. The details about the origin of this game is hazy although some sources claim this game of Carrom has an Indian origin, while others say that it has a Chinese origin.
The basic item needed to play a game of Carrom is plain plywood board which is square in shape and about 74 centimeters or 29 inches. The playing board is framed on all four sides with wood bumpers. Here unlike balls used in billiards, wooden disks are used. The disks are called as Carrom coins or Carrom Men. There are four different color coins – black, white, red and a striker. The aim of the game is to strike the coins with the help of the striker and push them to fall into the corner pockets. The red colored coin is called the ‘queen’. Carrom can be played with two to four players.
A carrom-man is a usually wooden or sometimes plastic, uniform small disk. The Carrom-men have a smooth movement in a flat position on the surface of the carrom board when hit by a striker of standard specification. The carrom-men traditionally come in two colors – black and white – denoting the two players or in doubles play, the opposing teams. The opener always plays white. An additional, special carrom-man is colored red and called the “queen”. The accepted specifications for Carrom Men are – diameter of not more than 3.18 cm and no less than 3.02 cm, and thickness must be between 7 mm and 9 mm, with a weight of 5 to 5.5 g.
The dimensions of the queen must be the same as those of the other carrom-men.The queen is the most powerful carrom piece and usually red in color. It is placed at the center of the circle. If a player wins the board with the queen, this adds five queen points to the player’s total score. A player pockets the queen and to cover it provided a carrom-man of the player’s own has already been pocketed.
The striker is a larger and relatively heavier disk, flicked with the finger to hit the carrom-men and knock them into the corner pockets. The striker has to be smooth and round, with a diameter not more than 4.13 cm. Its weight should not be more than 15 grams.
High quality powder, most commonly boric acid powder is used on the board to enable the pieces to slide easily. In the UK and other European countries, many players use a version of spray powder from the printing industry which is made from pure, food-grade vegetable starch.
The rules of the game are promulgated by the India-based International Carrom federation. The organisation also ranks players, sanctions tournaments and presents awards, and has many international affiliates.
The aim of the game is to pocket one’s own nine carrom men before one’s opponent pockets his. However, before sinking one’s final carrom man, the queen must be pocketed and then “covered” by pocketing one of one’s own carrom men on the same or subsequent strike. Fouls, such as crossing the diagonal lines on the board with any part of one’s body, or potting the striker, lead to carrom men being returned to the board. The player is allowed to shoot with any finger, including the thumb known as thumbing.

Nicky Meintjies asked: The arrangement of billiard balls on the green bed of a pool table just before the break shot is sheer beauty. No other ball game offers so much color and variety as billiards does. In the game of Carom, a type of billiards played without pockets on the table, only three balls are used. One is a red ball and the other two are white balls with one of the white balls marked with a black dot. Sometimes a yellow ball is used instead of a white ball. The red ball is known as the “object ball”. The white ball is the “cue ball” for the first player. The yellow or the dotted white ball is the cue ball of the second player.
Billiard balls are also popularly known as “pool balls” because the game of pocket billiard is popular in the USA as “pool”. Pool balls are the snazziest of all billiard balls. Billiard halls prefer pool balls for the vibrant range of colors they come in. Yellow, blue, red, orange, purple, burgundy, green, black, and a combination of red and white, blue and white, yellow and white, orange and white, and purple and white – all these are the possible colors of billiard balls. They stand in good contrast to the green turf of the table.
When it comes to Billiard balls, you will find that there is a variety of differences between some of them. The obvious one is the difference in colour and stripes. Then there is the weight. While your average player will not even notice this, you can expect a professional pool player to notice not only the weight but the improvement that this factor makes to their playing. As your playing improves, you will also find that this makes quite of a big difference when playing the game.
Each pool ball also carries a number. Carom balls are not numbered. The balls with single colors are called solids and the others with two colors are called stripes. For instance, the yellow ball is number one, the blue and white ball is number ten and the green and white balls is number fourteen. Carom balls are slightly bigger than the pool balls. Training billiard balls are marked with target rings making it possible for the novice player to judge better about at which angle the ball needs to be struck.
When not in play billiard balls are kept in a ball rack. Billiard balls stay on the table until the end in a game of carom. In a game of pocket billiards the balls that fall in to the pockets are lead through the troughs and are collected to be in to play again. The earliest billiard balls were made up of wood and clay balls. Those that could afford it played with ivory balls. These days high quality billiard balls are made to withstand strong shots without chipping and cracking. Most billiard balls available in the market are made of Phenolin resin or polyester and acrylic.

Josephine Thunder asked: 8-ball pool is one of the most popular games in America. It is played in pool halls, restaurants, private billiard rooms and on personal computers everywhere throughout the nation, as well as in other parts of the world. While the origins of billiards – the general name used to describe all indoor games played on a rectangular covered with felt table with a stick and a set of balls – stretches back to the 15th century, it was not until the late 18th century that the game we refer to as 8-ball pool, or simply pool had become a legitimate recreation.
First there was billiart. Actually, first there was the outdoor game called croquet used to be played the French upper classes during the 14th century. At this time, billiart was introduced as an indoor version of croquet. The green felt that covered the table meant to evoke the lawn on which it was played.
The billiard game was brought to America by the middle of the 19th century, no one knows exactly how. Back then, one pocket was the most popular billiard game followed by a game called four-ball. Later on, a game called straight, similar to the popular European billiard game was carombole game and played on a table with no pockets, was the favorite billiard game in America.
The most ancient version of modern pool game can be tracked back to the end of the 18th century. The game fifteen-ball pool used to be played with a set of 15 balls in poolrooms, which mainly acted as horse betting parlors. Fifteen-ball pool, which was later called straight pool, continuous pool or 14.1 continuous, was the most popular pool game for a long time. That, until the game of 8-ball was invented.
Michael Phelan, a legendary billiard player, the first American billiard author and the ancestor of American billiards, is the one who brought the pool games from the underground poolrooms into the light of day. By establishing the first billiard championship in America (and winning it too) as well as publishing the first set of billiard rules and pool table etiquette, Phelan made the pool and billiards the popular sports they are today.

Parents would you be worried about leaving your kids there? If they do a overnight skate, how old would your child be to be allowed to stay? There would be adult supervision.
